Swimming records thrill Ekeji

The Director of Sports Development in the Federal Ministry of Sports and Social Development, Chief Patrick Ekeji told Nigeriasports.com that he is impressed with the performance of Nigeria’s swimmers at the ongoing 14th National Sports Festival.

Ekeji, who in the company of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Solomon Matankari watched Wednesday’s morning session at the pool side said afterwards that the new Festival records set by three swimmers, is indicative that swimming was making good progress in the country.

“You mean three new records were set? That is impressive. It is good to see that the Federation is keeping the flag flying,” he said.

Incidentally, Ekeji had few moths back hinted that Nigeria swimmers are not capable of competing against other nations at the Olympics.

The swimming competition will draw to an end today. So far, Delta state have continued with their dominance, winning more gold medals in the 200 meters backstroke men through Samson Opuaka, 50 meters freestyle men through Azuka Ishiechili and 4x100 meters freestyle relay women.
