Wikki Tourists football club of Bauchi will play their remaining matches of the 2004 Nigeria Premier League at the Ilorin Township stadium following the fracas at their Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi after their week six loss to Mighty Jets of Jos on Wednesday the 24th of March, 2004.
NFA Head of Pro League Department, Salisu Abubarkar told nigeriasports.com on Friday that the situation was much worse than they imagined since the center referee’s reports said nothing untoward happened after the match.
“Reports from Jos say one person died and many others had major injuries like machete cuts on their bodies and you begin to imagine what kinds of football fans would do this to fellow fans.”
The HOD also suggested severe sanctions for the match referee for misleading the NFA, but was silent on other centers that have experienced crowd violence like the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano where there has been crowd violence twice in the eight match old Premier League.
“Well, we have not heard any reports yet about the Kano Stadium, but if we do, we would not hesitate to take action.”
After the referee’s reports indicated that all well went in the match, officials of Mighty Jets on Friday sent in pictures of the fracas that sent shock waves through the spines of officers at the NFA Pro League department forcing Salisu Abubarkar to take immediate action.
