Nigeria sprinter Mary Onyali-Omagbemi is hoping for a better outing at the Athens Olympic Games billed for August in Greece.
Playing down all the chaos that surrounds the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), and some top athletes. Onyali informed Nigeriasports.com that she is optimistic of a repeat of the last All Africa games in Nigeria.
“Personally, I cannot speak for other athletes but for myself. I am not aware of any problem since am here in Houston Texas. I stay in touch with the AFN through e-mails and everything looks fine”.
“I believe we can achieve exactly what we did last October in Abuja if we adopt the same preparatory programme” she noted.
“The camping in Germany helped the athletes a lot in terms of concentration and I believe it can achieve same goal as we prepare for the Olympics.
Onyali however stress that training grants ahead of the Olympic Games is yet to be released to the athletes but insist that it will not affect her personal preparations.
“I have not heard anything about it but I will only keep up my training schedule. Although it should have been paid earlier but I am not allowing that distract me and it will only spell doom if I decide to wait and it comes just three weeks to the games” she adds.
The athlete who captained ‘Team Nigeria’ to a first place finish at the 8th All Africa games in told this website that she will be concentrating on her specialty, the 200-metres.
“I hope to concentrate on the 200 metres with a goal of achieving something out of it at the games” Onyali says.
