Amiesimaka salutes Chukwu

Former Green Eagles International Adokiye Amiesimaka says the victory of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the Nations cup quarterfinal match on sunday is a victory to Nigerian coaches and everything that is Nigerian.

Adokiye Amiesimaka told www.nigeriasports.com on Sunday night from his base in Port Harcourt that Christian Chukwu, a Nigerian has done what no other coach could do.

He says the least we can do is give Chukwu credit and encourage other Nigerian coaches.

“I must first congratulate Nigeria and Nigerians for this victory and say, there is a lot we can achieve and we have the wherewithal but we lack the will.”

Adokiye said Chukwu’s win over Cameroon on Sunday should at least convince Nigerians that they can achieve if only they give themselves the necessary push, encouragement and confidence.

“The least we can do now is give Chukwu credit for doing what no other foreign coach has ever done for us. I congratulate him in particular because he has shown the whole world that he can achieve too. I only hope that the NFA is taking note that we cannot continue to play second fiddle but we must give our home coaches the necessary support, encouragement, exposure and opportunity to showcase what they can do.”

Pledges support for anything Nigerian

The former Chairman of Sharks FC said his argument has never been in favour of Christian Chukwu as a person but for a good Nigeria Coach to handle the National team and be given all the support to do that successfully.

“I’ve have never said it must be Chukwu and no one else but if he is thought to be the best amongst the lot them let him do his job, and of course he is doing that now. We do not need any foreign coach when we have Chukwu, Amodu Shaubu, Kadiri Ikhana, Godwin Uwua and many other Nigerian coaches that have excelled.”

He urged the NFA to take their time, look at the wide spectrum of coaches the country has and pick the best and expose as many of them as we know can deliver to all the modern trends in a bid to bring them up to date

“It must be a Nigerian at the helm of affairs and not a foreigner. And if the NFA or sports ministry insists on a foreign coach for the Eagles, then we must also think of bringing in foreigners to run the NFA”

He urged the Eagles not to rest on their oars, as their semi-final tie against Tunisia will be equally difficult.
