The Super Eagles of Nigeria will file out against Cameroon Sunday afternoon hoping to bury the ghost of losing thrice in the nations cup finals to the indomitable lions of Cameroon.
Although history favours the lions over the Eagles but www.nigeriasports.com can authoritatively say that the game could go either way, if feelings from the Eagles nest is anything to go by.
Nigeria lost to Cameroon in the finals of the 1984, 1988 and 2000 edition of the competition taking solace only in a 2-1 victory in the third place of Senegal ’92.
According to some members of the present squad, the Cameroonians are not invisible and are beatable as well.
“I am not too interested in the past events but certainly Cameroon will fall this time around” says Osaze Odemwingie.
Sharing same spirit is RC Lens of France forward, John Utaka who is positive of a Nigerian victory against their arch rivals.
“I wonder why people are scared of the Cameroonians” he said in rhetorics.
“We are in a great stride and good frame of mind and anything short of a victory is a disappointment on our part” he added.
Coach Christian Chukwu was also beaming with confidence ahead of the game as he confessed to www.nigeriasports.com that the eagles will soar high on Sunday.
“I am not troubled and instead I am prepared just like my players not to prove any point but to get a victory for Nigeria” he explained.
Kanu shrugs off injury fears
Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu further boosted Nigeria’s chances by participating in the team’s light training on Saturday afternoon.
The player had been reportedly declared unfit for the game thus putting spanners into the works of Coach Christian Chukwu after the sad news of Julius Aghahowa.
The game has been described by pundits as ‘The Final before the Final’.
