Yakubu to captain Eagles

Everton of England forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni is now the Super Eagles captan, Nigeriasports.com can exclusively report.

The Former Portsmouth forward is however to lead out the Nigerian team against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the world and nations cup qualifiers in Port Elizabeth.

The development is as a result of the injuries to the duo of Nwankwo Kanu and Joseph Yobo the captain and his assistant respectivey.

According to Peterside Idah, the media co-ordinator of the Nigerian side, Yakubu Aiyegbeni is the most experienced player in the squad.

"He is a very hardworking and popular player amongst his team mates. He has a lot of quality and we are hoping it all rub off on the young players in the squad".

Yakubu Aiyegbeni has scored 16 goals in 43 matches for the Super Eagles.
