The Annual general meeting of the Nigeria footballassociation is to be hosted in Makurdi, Benue state, the football house has announced.
The city of Makurdi, capital of Benue State, is truly alive as stakeholders of Nigeria football descend on it for Thursday’s 2008 Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Association.
Organizing Committee head Ademola Olajire said on Wednesday that this year’s showpiece will be colourful as it comes on the heels of outstanding success by the Super Eagles in the 2010 FIFA World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers and on the margin of expected brilliant outings by the men’s and women’s Olympic teams at the 2008 Beijing Games starting next month.
“There is so much to celebrate and so much to look forward to. Those are the factors that make for a fabulous Annual General Assembly”, said Olajire, who is also the Association’s chief media officer.
For the first time, there will be a special performance by the Benue State Cultural Troupe at the opening ceremony, while the Assembly will be followed by a high –profile novelty football match and the season –ending Charity Cup duel.
Players and Officials of Kano Pillars (winners of the Premier League) and Ocean Boys (which lifted the FA Cup here less than three weeks ago) are already looking forward to outstanding performances at the Charity Cup match.
Over one hundred delegates make up the Annual General Assembly of Nigeria football, and all of them are already in town for the showpiece.
There will be the Chairman and Secretary from the Football Association of each of the 37 States of the Federation, as well as Representatives of the 20 Premier League Clubs, one person from the other Leagues, two people from the Coaches Association, two from the Referees Association and two from the Players’ Association.
There will also be all Members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Association, management staff of the Association and other Consultative Members.
Invited to the opening ceremony are the Honourable Minister/Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Barrister Abdulrahaman Hassan Gimba, Director General and Nigeria’s Member of FIFA/CAF, Dr Amos Adamu, other NSC Directors, former NFA Chairmen, former NFA Secretaries-General, Sports Commissioners from some States, former WAFU President Chief Jonathan Ogufere, former WAFU Publicity Secretary Austin Akosa, former FIFA –graded Referee Bolaji Okubule, Pa John Ojidoh and other eminent football personalities in the land.
