Angola Succumbed to Czech 86-54

Africa pride, Angola this evening bow to the superior fire-power of the Czech Republic by 86-54 points in her second and last group-B game.

Angola thus precedes to the last eight and a golden opportunity to battle for a place in the main basketball event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The European took the first third and fourth quarter of the explosive match (24-09, 21-10 and 27-14) leaving the second quarter to the Angolan who won by 21-14 points.

Angola guard/forward Astrida Vincente was the only Angolan player to have her name with a double figure of 12 points on the score-sheet.

The teams placed 1st and 2nd in each group will play in the Quarter-Finals; the teams placed 3rd in each group will go home. A total of 12 games will be played in the Preliminary Round.

Angola will now battle group-A leader, Latvia in the fourth quarter-final match on Thursday as Wednesday will be observed by all the teams as rest day.

Brazil will battle Belarus in the first quarter-finals; Cuba will take to the floor against host Spain in the second quarter-finals while Czech Republic engages Japan.

The four quarter-finals winners will qualify for the Olympic Games. The four losers will play in the Semi-Finals and Finals for one remaining qualifying place
