Lagos State Commissioner for Youth Sports & Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele Wednesday flagged off the Referees’ and Officials seminar for the forthcoming Street Soccer Championship.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony, Adele enjoined Lagosians to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the state government and make a living from the championship.
He said that an average referee has the opportunity as making fortune with the championship, as each referee will be rewarded handsomely.
“This is an opportunity for the referees to earn an average of N10,000 per week throughout the duration of the championship. So, it is for all Lagosians within the ages of 18-30years to make a living with it,” he said.
The referees seminar held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos has in attendance over 150 intending referees and team officials, who were lessoned on the rules and regulations guiding the championship.
Coordinator of the seminar, Tade Azeez, who expressed delight over the large turn out of referee trainees for the championship, said that the seminar will continue today with other technicalities of officiating on the Five-A-side Championship.
“It is pertinent to let the who be referees to be updated on the latest rules and regulations guiding the Street Soccer Championship. This is what we have done today (Wednesday) and the seminar will be rounded up on Thursday at the same venue,” he said.
During the seminar, a demonstration was staged to practically teach the intending referees on the rules and regulations of the game.
Meanwhile, the Venues and facility Committee of the street Soccer Championship will Thursday begin a tour of venues in readiness for the kick off of the championship.
According to chairman of the committee, Bolaji Yussuf, the venues to be visited includes Surulere, Itire-Ikate, Yaba, Mainland and Coker/Aguda.
