Fennel To Prepare Nigeria For 2018 Commonwealth

In the aftermath of Nigeria's failed bid to clinch the 2014 Commonwealth Games hosting right, the Commonwealth Games Federation, CGF, is set to help Nigeria reappraise its status should the nation be interested in bidding for the 2018 games.

In this regard, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Mike Fennel, is expected in Nigeria from April 27 - April 30 to debrief the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Bid Committee.

The CGF team will be received by a joint team of the 2014 Bid Committee led by Gen Yakubu Gowon (RTD)and the Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games Association (CGA)also headed by Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel

Fennel and his officers from the CGF are to evaluate Nigeria’s bid for the 2014 Games which it lost to Glasgow, Scotland, and then to assess Nigeria’s strength and weakness, and identify areas needing improvement in case the country would like to bid again in future for the 2018 Games.

Member countries of the CGF, currently are beginning to indicate interest in hosting the 2018 Games even as there are strong indications that many countries are willing to step down, if Nigeria wants to bid for the 2018 Games.

One of such countries, according to the spokesman of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tony Nezianya, is South Africa.
