Eight teams will converge in the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State of Nigeria between November 6 and 11 this year for the 2007 edition of the Royal Hoopers Basketball Classics.
The 2007 edition of the invitational classics slated for the Nigeria Police Sports Complex in Port Harcourt will feature Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF Atlantic Conference winner and runner-up Ebun Comets and Union Bank basketball clubs, Lagos City league champion, Dodan Warriors and new team on the block, Chariot basketball club of Lagos.
Other teams expected to feature in the six-day classics includes home team and host of the annual invitational, Royal Hoopers basketball club of Port Harcourt, Bayelsa Waves of Yenogoa, Free Nets basketball club and FCT Rocks basketball club of Abuja.
One of the brains behind the Port Harcourt Invitational Coach Fubura told www.fiba-afrique.com in an exclusive telephone chat that the eight teams would be catered for while in the Garden City for the Classics.
He says the aim and objective of the Classics is to raise the awareness level of the slamming and dunking game in Rivers State with a view to produce more players in the mould of former NBA-Star Obinna Ekezie among others.
The eight teams will be offered free accommodation during their stay in Port Harcourt while trophies and cash prizes will be given out to outstanding teams at the end of the Classics.
