Host of the African Nations Championship for Women falls back on excellent team work to edge past determined Mozambicans in a group-A game played Sunday night at the sports hall of the Marius N'Diaye stadium, Dakar.
Backed by home support the Senegal Lioness won three of the four quarters (Q1: 17-09; Q3: 16-06 and Q4: 11-09) while the youthful Mozambicans won in the second quarter 16-15.
Scores at halftime stood at 32-27 with Senegal leading, and when it look as if is going to be a close game, the Aya Traore inspired Senegalese side opened up the gap between them and the Mozambican thus stressing
the margin to 15 points and went ahead to add two more points margin to it for a fulltime scoreline of 59-42 points.
Traore led her teamate with 15 points, 9 rebounds and one assist while the duo of Mozambique's Carla Da Silva and Clarisse Machanguana recorded 17 and 10 points for their team with Machanguana grabbing 7
rebounds.
Group-B last match for the day went the way of Cameroon with a 59-55 points victory over Kenya and thus share same points with Nigeria but have to settle for the third spot on the six-team group.
