Mancini Targets Deco Or Motta?

In the aftermath of Marco Materazzi's injury that could see him out of action until December, Inter coach Robero Mancini is apparently looking for defensive cover.

Yet pro-Barcelona newspaper Sport indicates that he might, in fact, opt for a defensive midfielder and has set an eye over Barcelona pair Deco and Thiago Motta.

Deco has been linked with clubs from England to Italy and beyond, despite the Barcelona hierarchy having repeatedly pointed out that the Portuguese midfielder is not for sale.

Motta, though, is up for grabs. Technical director Txiki Begiristain placed the player on the transfer list in June, with the likes of AC Milan allegedly having shown interest in signing him.

The player is free to leave, and the Italo-Brazilian is a far more realisitic target and one that would be a lot cheaper, too.

Whether Mancini opts to strengthen the midfield when it's the defence that needs a look, though, remains to be seen reported the newspaper.
