All is now set for the commencement of the 1st Procold Lagos Table Tennis Open Championship at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos Sports Centre, Akoka, Lagos.
The four-day event attracted top table tennis players from the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital territory, Abuja will witness the like of Commonwealth Games Men Singles defending champion, Segun Toriola, top seeded players such as Monday Merotoun, Hassan Kazeem battling for the 1,000 USD Men Singles prize money while the likes of Funke Oshonaike, Bose Kaffo, Cecilia Otu and Offiom Edem and other female players will slug it out in the Women Singles event.
According to the Chairman of the Lagos State Table Tennis Association, Waheed Enitan Oshodi, organizers of the event sponsored by Procold an Anti Cold drug from the stable of KALBE, Indonesia and marketed by Orange Drugs Limited in Nigeria that the event being the first national table tennis competition this year will live up to its billing.
The LTTA Boss, commend the sponsor for coming to the aid of the association in sponsoring the championship which according to him will be for the benefit of the sport and the development of the players in Nigeria.
Procold country manager, Didik Novandi, has expressed satisfaction with preparation put in place for the event which stroke off today through Saturday at the UNILAG sports Centre.
The Indonesian promised that his product will continue to identify with the event on an annual basis to serve as its contribution to the development of table tennis in particular and sports in general in Nigeria.
The Procold-man says Nigeria is blessed with abundant talent which is capable of dominating the ping-pong game if all hand is on deck.
Fans will not be left out of the event as they stand to win various prizes that range from T-Shirt, Radio, DVD, Television among other items on a basis, Novandi said.
