The Abuja camp of the Nigeria senior national team came alive at the weekend as invited players and their handlers begin preparation for the 9th All Africa Games holding in Algiers, Algeria from July 11 through 23 this year.
The much delayed camp which was put off months was reconvene at the instance of the National Sports Commission when it became known that it is only basketball that is not in camp among the sports that the country will be participating in.
Nigeria who won the Women gold and Men bronze at the 8th edition of the Africa Olympics in 2003 must do everything possible to maintain such status in Algiers.
Our Correspondent gathered that some of the players already in camp includes Dodan Warriors forward, Michael Uma-Okoro and Friday Ujuh Alexander, Islanders Azeez Oladimeji, Ebun Comets duo of Dennis Ebikoro and Orseer Ikyaator, Union Bank Lious Edem Ekpeyong, Rasheed Bello, Niger Potters guard, Abubakar Usman, 2006 Commonwealth team captain Abdulrahman Mohammed, Plateau Peaks trio of Ibrahim Tat, Stanley Gumut and Ngutshe Ice Ndatsu among others.
The team it was gathered train twice daily under the watchful eyes of coaches Sanni Ahmed and Andrew Isokpehi at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja.
Other invited players are still being expected, as it was doubtful if most of the invited foreign based players will be able to make the trip down to Nigeria before the final list is made public.
