Sensational Idoko Tackles Lawal

This year's CBN Open Tennis Championship comes to a thrilling end today at the Tennis Courts of the National Stadium, Lagos, with the sensational Candy Idoko battling hard hitting Shehu Lawal in the Men's singles final of the competition.

This competition has been full of surprises with some of the players defying the bookmakers predictions to post some astonishing results.

And chief among the surprise elements is Idoko, who blew apart top seed, Abdulmumini Babalola in a thrilling quarterfinal tie that lasted more than three
hours.

Today, Idoko, who dismissed Destiny Da Silva yesterday in one of the semi-final matches, will meet another ambitious player, Shehu Lawal in the Mens
singles final. Lawal had an easy ride to the final, as his opponent, Augustine Nwokedi, retired in the second set of the semifinal match. Lawal had won the first set 6-4 and was leading 5-1 in the second before Nwokedi threw in
the towel.

In his semifinal match, Idoko was on top of his game as he came from a set down to beat Destiny Da Silva 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 to cruise to the final.

Da Silva started brightly, tossing Idoko, who was apparently still suffering from the effects of his gruelling quarterfinal clash with Babalola, around the court to win the first set 5-7. On resumption for the second set, a rejuvenated Idoko
brought more aggression into his game to the surprise of Da Silva, who promptly lost the set 6-2.

The final set began the way the second ended, with Idoko's domineering approach proving too difficult for Da Silva to contend with. Da Silva lost 6-1.
