Zone-1 Taekwondo Tourney hold in Ibadan

The Indoor Sports Hall of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan the Oyo State capital will come alive Thursday for a one-day Poomse Taekwondo Championship organised under the auspies of the Zonal representative on the board of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria, Ms Tayo Popoola.

The championship, which is part of programme of the representative to update the skills of athletes and officials of the combat sport will also attract Coaches, Association Secretaries, Referees, Athletes and all stakeholders in the game of Taekwondo from the six states of the Zone.

According to Ms Popoola a former national athlete, "the championship is to keep all our athletes and officials within the South West sub-region abreast of events in the game of Taekwondo, especially in Poomse with a view to enhancing the performances of our athletes in national events.

Zonal Coordinator of the National Sports Commission Peter Nelson, expressed the readiness of the Zonal headquarters to host the Championship the former Nigeria D'Tigers point guard promised that prizes and certificates would be awarded to winners at the the competition.
