The governorship candidate of the Action Congress in Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola lasty Wednesday promised Lagosians that his administartion will give sports a place of pride if voted in as the next governor of the Centre of Excellence.
Fashola who was guest of Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, told the gathering that he will match his words with action if he took over the Alausa round house after the April 14 general election.
The former Chief of Staff of the Bola Tinubu administartion and former captain of the University of Benin football team to the 1986 Nigerian University Games, NUGA said the nation sports is at its present prostrate state because there is no clear cut sports policy that should revolutionalised the industry he described as very lucrative.
The AC guber candidate for the hot seat of the nation’s commercial capital did not mince words that sports have actually suffered in the country but says he is ready to make Lagos State a worthy example that would be emulated by other states of the federation.
He said Lagos State will continue to play its role of the sportsmen and women manufacturing industry in the country and promised that other facilities in the state order than the Teslim Balogun Stadium which he was confident of its completion by the Tinubu administration before May 29 when it will leave office will receive close attention and monitoring of the state government under his leadership as governor.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN is a member of the All Stars Football Club/society, the body is expected to engage the Sports Writers in friendly match billed for the national stadium, Lagos in a yet to be announced date, the match the second in the series, the first encounter ended 6 goals to one in favour of the All Stars.
