South Africa takes bronze

South Africa have won the bronze of the 5th African Wopmen championship as they beat Cameroun 5-4 on penalties.


   
  Modisae Portia found the net in the 3rd minute to open the scoring while Bella Francoise of  Cameroon equalised in the 50th minute of the game through penalty which was converted byBella Francoise as keeper's effort only helped in sending the ball further in.
    
  A one time touch form Makhanya Memory from outside the box during a goal mouth scramble in the 63rd minute gave South Africa a 2-1 lead, but 20 minutes later Ngono Madeleine laveled up for Cameroun.
  
   South African keeper Chimeloane Itumeleng saved what would have been Cameroun's leading goal two minutes to the regulation time.

  Speaking to nigeriasportst.com at the end of the encounter, the former Bafana Bafana defender said though he had come to the championship in search of world cup ticket, it is a thing of joy not to go home empty handed.
  
  "I am happy for this medal. We came here looking for world cup ticket which we missed narrowly but going home with the bronze medal is still something to cheer about"
  
  "The girls did their best though they would have ended the game in regulation time but few lapses led to the draging of the game. All the same we are happy"
  
   Coach of the  Camerounians, Kandem Charles said though the team came with the hope of bettering their last edition performance, it is still not a bad experience as the youthful side learnt quite a lot
  
  "We are not lucky enough. We've learnt quite a lot, in two years to come we will definetely improve"
