Minister of Sports and social Development Bala Ka'Oje, has commended some Wrestlers for their outstanding performance in the 25th Africa Wrestling Championship staged recently in South Africa.
According to a statement to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the minister gave the commendation when he received the wrestlers led by the President of the Nigeria Amateur Wrestling Federation, Chief Austine Edeze.
Ka'Oje said that the victory recorded by the wrestlers would remain a memorial for the ministry and an encouragement to other sports to work harder if they were to reach the top.
``I believe that the tremendous performance recorded at the championship shows that you that our wrestlers can excel at the world stage,'' he said.
Ka'oje pledged the ministry's support to the federation while urging it to continue to do its
best in making the country proud.
Earlier, Edeze, commended the ministry for its support, which he said had been instrumental to the successes recorded by the federation.
The wrestlers won 4 gold, 4 silver and a bronze at the event. The winners include top female wrestler, Sammy Oziti, Joe Oziti, Hapiness Burutu, Maria Musa and Fred Jessy.
