Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is expected to flag-off the first to be held on a Saturday, Olympic Day Run on July 1, 2006 by 8.00am. The event which takes-off from the National Stadium Car Park in Lagos, will route through Western Avenue to Ikorodu Road -Onipanu Watchtawa - Morocco Road - WEAC - Yaba College of Technology to connect Jibowu, Mosalasi, Ojuelegba and back to the National Stadium.
According to Sports For All Nigeria Association, the arm of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, (NOC) that is responsible for the organization of the Run in Nigeria, entertainment would be provided on the routes while dancerobics and traditional dance displays will be on, at the National Stadium. Those who are unable to be part of the Run, are expected to participate in the dances.
Participation, nigeriasports.com was told, is open to everyone, who believes that he or she is fit enough to take part. However, prospective participants are invited to obtain registration forms, complete and return them to the offices of Sports For All Nigeria, NOC Building, at the National Stadium, Surulere - Lagos.
Such prospective participants should indicate that, they have been adjudged fit to enter the event by a Medical Doctor. The Olympic Day Run is a unique international event established by the International Olympic Committee, IOC. It is the body's idea of guiaranteeing access by people all over the world, irrespective of race, colour, gender, age, religion or social background, to participate regularly in mass people-oriented sports and leisure physical activities for recreation, fitness and healthy living purposes.
