Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, husband of Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, the secretary to the Rivers State Government’s inspiring play on day one of the Port-Harcourt Club Polo tournament could not save his side the G-Gamac club of Port-Harcourt from a crushing defeat to Bauchi MarshPearl.
The all action game watched by a fairly large crowd of polo enthusiasts ended in 3-51\2 in favour of the Bauchi team.
Sweating after the highly charged game, the Port-Harcourt based architect and businessman, while not taking the anything away from the better asserted that his side lost to the game as a result of the poor shape of the ponies they used in the first half of the game. Adding, “The ponies did not allow us to play according to our game plan, as the players were frustrated most of the game”
The Garden-City team still has a chance to redeem their position on day three of the tournament on Friday when they face the Ibadan Challenge club.
All together some 20 teams spreads across the country are participating in the five-day tournament, which ends on Sunday January 11
