Sports For All Nigeria plans unique DAY RUN

The 2006 edition of the Olympic Day Run event, held annually to mark the formation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, by the Paris Congress, led by Frenchman Baron Pierre Freddy de Coubertin, will be staged in the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Saturday 1st July 2006.

The event organizers, Sports for All Nigeria (SFAN) working in co-operation with the Nigeria Olympic Committee(NOC), intends to accord this year’s event, the desired national outlook and increased excitement amongst mass-participation in recreational sports enthusiasts nationwide.

In order to ensure immense success for the event, a 20-member Main Organizing Committee has been constituted.

The Main Organising Committee has; Mrs. Ize Matebese as Chairman, and the following as members:- Chief Jerry Okaro, Chief Ernest Juweto, Mr. Jonathan Dyagas, Mr. Abdulkareem Macaulay, Mr. Emeka Amobi, Mallam Elias Yusuf and Mr. S.A. Daudu.

Others include:Mr.S. O. Babatoba, Mr.James Olua, Mr. Izuchukwu Valentine, Mr.Ilyasu Garba, Col.Walter Jibunoh (Rtd), Mr. Tony Nezianya, Mrs. Gloria Obajimi, Mr. Emeka Odikpo, Mr. Augustine Odigie, Dr. S. Fasan, CSP Gideon Akinsola and Mallam Ahmed Jumare, while Mrs. Comfort Nwankwo will serve as Secretary.

A Publicity Sub-committee has also been constituted with Mr. Tony Nezianya as Coordinator, while members are, Mr. Emeka Odikpo, Mr. Emeka Amobi, Mr. Ignis Amar Ignis, Mr.Andrew Ekejiuba, Mr. Bassey Koma Ekpo, Mr. Patrick Ibe and Mr. Abdulkareeem Macaulay, who is to serve as Secretary.

The formal inauguration of the Committees will take place at the NOC board room, National Stadium, Lagos on Tuesday, May 23,2006 at 2.00pm prompt.
