Islanders redeem image against Customs

Lagos Islanders players vented their anger over last weekend's loss to Dodan Warriors during their third game in the on-going Vmobile Basketball Premier League by handing a 65 - 52 points defeat to further dim Nigeria Customs chance of qualifying for play off during the 10th match of the Atlantic Conference, played at the indoor Sports Hall of National Stadium, Surulere last Friday.

The game, which began with purposeful play from both teams, saw Islanders drawing the first blood via a 2point shot from Oladimeji Azeez. After about four minutes of impressive play on the court, his teammate, Seun Akintola, increased the score line to 6 - 2 points in favour of their team, even as Hilary Aigbokhaode sank the first and second 3 point shots within 45 seconds interval and further widened the score line to 12 ? 2 against Nigeria Customs.

Series of drives launched against the board of Islanders by Dawodu Daniel of Customs helped to keep the first quarter scores at 22 - 15 points in favour of Lagos Islanders.

The second quarter saw Islander`s Chris Okoh stealing the ball from Dawodu Daniel, who immediately retrieved it and went for an unsuccessful lay-up. Islanders, again, maintained the lead as the quarter two of the game ended with 34 ´- 21 points.

Dawodu led his team's offense on the Islanders board but the zonal defense strategy of Coach Toyin Sonoiki's boys made nonsense of his play. Chris Okoh then launched into a series of drives on the Custom's board, which forced the Coach Scott Nnaji boys to foul him, and he utilized the opportunity to score additional points for his team. Third quarter scores stood at Islanders 47, Customs 36.

Customs opened up the last quarter scoring while Dawodu led their charge for a revival against the Islanders team that sat back to soak the pressures and catch the Customs team on the rebound.  Final scores stood at Lagos Islanders 65, Nigeria Customs 52.

With these scores, Lagos Islanders has won three of the four games played while Nigeria Customs is yet to win any match in the on-going Vmobile Basketball Premier League.
