Ekong thumps up Akwa Ibom Ladies

Akwa Ibom State Sports Commissioner, Chris Ekong has praised the efforts of the State Female Football Team for winning silver medal in the football event of the 15th National Sports Festival.

Ekong noted that the State have been able to show that her dominance of the game in the country is no fluke.

"I want to thank the ladies for making the State proud. They have shown they can stand the test of time when the chips are down. We came to the competition but nobody really gave us a chance, but in spite of the fact that we did not bring professionals for the Festival, we were able to do our best in the football event against the host".

"I am so happy and proud of them because they gave me something to cheer last Thursday. Ogun teams were highly motivated and the crowd really cheered them on. But my girls held on and would have won if not for the momentary loss of concentration" he added.

"We are going to build on the silver medals and hope to win gold in the next Festival Ekong said.

The Akwa Ibom State team had earlier lost by a whopping four goals to one in its opening game against the Otunba Gbenga Daniels girls but held their own when it matter most holding the Ogun girls to a standstill but lost in the resultant penalty kicks.
