Officials down tool over unpaid allowance

The smoothness enjoyed by events at the Alake Sports Centre since the commencement of the 15th National Sports Festival, tagged, “Gateway Games 2006” eleven days ago suffered a setback as officiating officials have threatened to down tool if their outstanding allowance is not paid up.

Most events at the Alake Sports Centre are at their final stages and the officials have vowed not to shift ground over what they termed ‘lack of trust’.

“We can not trust these people and that is why we are insisting that they pay us our outstanding allowances before the conclusion of the various events”, an umpire who would not want his name in print disclose to nigeriasports.com this morning.

Events such as Volleyball, Handball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Basketball are the ones mostly affected by the no money, no work situation.
