The name Morounmubo Laurel Ojo is not new to the game of squash in Nigeria as she was once rated as the number 8 female player in the country.
The Ondo State-born Biology graduate of the University of Lagos soon find new lease of live in broadcasting due to long years of inactivity that characterized the Nigeria Squash Racket Association, NSRA, in the past few years.
Ojo who is participating in her third sports festival in the colour of Edo State has won one gold (in team event) and one silver in the singles event.
In a post medal presentation chat Mubo as she is fondly called by her admirers said its due to self commitment and discipline that saw her through the energy shaping game of squash.
“I am elated that I can still make headlines in the sport after a long layoff due to my engagement as a journalist with Radio Nigeria, Akure station (Positive FM) and self discipline as my work schedule did not allow me to execute proper training plans”, radiant Ojo said.
In the male singles event Ogun State Gbenga Adeyi defeated Sadiq Taiwo of Lagos State by 3 sets to one while the duo of Kuti Taiwo of Ebonyi State and Adamu Usman representing the Federal Capital Territory won the bronze medals.
Borno State Paullina Clement won the ladies singles, Mubo Ojo took the silver for Edo State while her compatriots Lillian Chukwu and Cecilia Okon shared the bronze.
