National sports festival shot put gold medallist, Vivian chukwuemeka of akwa Ibom state has hit hard against the standard of the competition at the games saying it was not stiffer than a national secondary school sports event, nigeriasports.com can report.
“There is nothing whatsoever to sweat for here since the pool is very weak,” Chukwuemeka told nigeriasports.com.
“I cant say I am competing at the games. I can only say I’m just enjoying myself.”
Chukwuemeka broke the national sports festival record three times on Wednesday to finally win the gold medal with a throw of 18.35m.
The old record of 15.43 was set by Tina akowe of Imo state in 1998.
Chukwuemeka says her desire is to improve on her season’s best of 18.91m this year.
“I am targeting 19.1 meters before the end of the year and with my improvement rate I’m sure I’ll get it.”
