Nigerian League kickoff postponed again

The Nigerian football league board has for the third time postponed the kick off of the 2006 Nigerian Premier League, nigeriasports.com can report.

Chairman of the board made this known to newsmen on Wednesday night during the draws for the Premier league held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. According to Obaseki, this was at the instance of some of the clubs participating in the league. “Yes, some clubs complained that they have key players taking part in the national sports festival that is on between the fifth and fifteenth of April so we had no choice but to move the league’s kick off forward.” Obaseki also said the fact that most clubs are yet to conclude their registration is another reason the league was postponed. “Apart from giving the clubs more time to register, we just feel they should also have more time to prepare for the league.” The 2006 football season now kicks off on the fifteenth of April.
