University of Lagos, host of the first West Africa University Games for Tennis, Athletics and Table Tennis, WAUG-TATT Wednesday officially unveiled the event mascot christened 'DOLPHIN'.
The mascot unveiling ceremony performed by the Nigeria Ivory tower Vice Chamcelor, Prof. Ibidapo-Obe at the Senate Chamber of the institution officially signify the commencement of the games which will bring together Sixty-five universities from the sixteen West Africa countries including Nigeria.
According to the Unilag Vice Chancelor, a total of 1,500 athletes and 600 officials will take part in the three events (tennis, athletics and table tennis) that will be declared opened on Saturday with three serving ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in attendant.
The V.C described the choice of dolphin as mascot for the games, on the premise that the dolphin being a friendly and sporty fish will help to promote the spirit of friendliness and sportmanship among youths from various Universities across the West Africa sub-region.
Unilag management nigeriasports.com finding shows that necessary arrangement have been put in place for a hitch-free event which is the first of its kind since the birth of WAUG few years back that a single University will be granted the hosting right of three sporting event.
