Team Manager of Bayelsa United of Yenagoa, Carlos Binebi Numa has told nigeriasports.com that the state plans to expand the capacity of the Yenagoa township stadium to be able to contain the fans that will come in as they start their premier league campaign.
Carlos told nigeriasports.com that their stadium currently sits about five thousand people and adding and extra five thousand seat will do the trick.
“In life you must make do with what you have and I cant say we ever filled up the stadium in our campaign last season. But with a five thousand capacity, I’m sure by the time we add and extra five we should be okay for the premier league.”
“I do not think we would ever fill up the ten thousand any way but we have to be safe so I think we will be okay with a ten thousand capacity stadium.”
Numa said he expected large turn outs in games involving Rangers, Enyimba, Dolphins, Sharks, Shooting Stars and Iwuanyanwu Nationale since these are traditional clubs with large followership.
On the conduct of fans at the venue, the Team Manager opined that their stadium will be peaceful and safe for football fans to have their Sunday evening relaxation since they in Bayelsa State understand that football is just a game.
“You know our fans waited so long to get to the Premier League and they are not going to spoil it with anything like violent attitude”
“They wanted this Premiership ticket, maybe even more than we as the club did because they have been in the system longer than the club. They had always talked about premiership and they controlled themselves in our days as a pro-division one side”
“I am positive our fans will control themselves.”
Bayelsa United are currently in Calabar for their pre-season camp where they will play some friendly matches ahead of the start of the 2006 Nigerian Premier League.
