Count-down to GLO-CAF AWards

Hugh Masekela Arrives Feb 14: South African-born musical legend, Hugh Masekela is expected in Nigeria on valentines day for the ceremonies of the Glo-CAF Awards. Masekela, who deployed his musical talent in the fight against the former apartheid regime of South Africa, is billed to entertain guests during the ceremonies.

Nigeria's Lagbaja is the other musical star for the night. Sources at Globacom hinted that the two may collaborate in a rare Jamz that has not been witnessed since Masekela did same with Afro beat maestro, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti in Lagos.

Roger Milla to Grace Awards

Cameroon's 1990 World Cup hero, Roger Milla is one of the great African football icons expected to grace the ceremonies of the Glo-CAF Awards on February 16. Milla, who met with representatives of Globacom in Cairo, Egypt during the Africa Cup of Nations said his desire to attend the event is part of his vision to lend his personality to every cause that will raise the profile of African football.

"If I can join hands with FIFA and other continental bodies to promote football globally, then I can do more than that to raise African football to new hieghts" said the Cameroonian, fondly remembered for his exploits at the Italia'90 World Cup where the Indomitable Lions narrowly lost to England in the quarter-finals.

Globacom Stations Jets for Eto'O, Drogba, Essien

The three nominees for the Glo-CAF Awards African Player of the Year will be flown into Abuja on private jets that has been provided by the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga. A Globacom official who pleaded anonynimty revealed that while one of the jets will take off from Paris to Barcelona to pick Samuel Eto'O, the other will be stationed in the United Kingdom for the Chelsea duo of Diddier Drogba and Michael Essien.

Eto'O, it was learnt, will fly out of the Catalan city on the night of February 15 after playing for Barcelona in a Spanish King Cup match against Valencia. He will be accompanied by his son, Etienne,Club President, Juan Larporta and Lawyer, Maria Massalles.
