A member of the Nigeria Swimming Federation, Bassey Koma says there is a lot to cheer about the State of the Sport in Nigeria.Citing the last All Africa Games where Nigeria got a silver and bronze and the Afro
Asian Games where the country got even more medals, Bassey Koma told www.nigeriasports.com that the country is improving and with better facilities and training swimming will actually get better.
"In swimming today, we can be proud of our achievements, though modest. If you remember, before the last All Africa Games, Nigeria had never won a medal in the sport at International level, but we got two at the Games and another couple at the Afro Asian Games in India later," Bassey Koma enthused.
He admitted that Nigeria’s swimming is nothing compared to what obtains in South Africa, Zimbabwe and North Africa but that with better training and facilities,Nigeria will surely get there.
"The President of the Nigerian Swimming Federation, NSF was able to sponsor swimmers to Russia and then Egypt as well as organize the 2nd Governor’s Cup National Swimming Championships and you can see the results we got in Abuja and India. Ireally hope we learn from that."
