Team Manager of Bayelsa United of Yenagoa, Binebi Carlos Numa has told nigeriasports.com that there is no truth in rumours making the rounds that his club laid off players last season without paying them.
Bayelsa Unite team manager, Binebi "Carlos" Numa
Numa told nigeriasports.com that the players involved where put on transfer and Bayelsa United did what was required by law.
In the middle of last season, we did what most team would do and that is go for more players while we put nine on transfer to be loaned out and by law they must be paid half their wages which is what we did basically. Numa said.
I do not know what they were expecting from us, but I do not think we defaulted in any way.
Binebi said Bayelsa United were privileged to have sponsors who did not withhold anything from them and even when they had to go for supplementary funds outside the initially approved budget, they did not hit a brick wall.
I thank God that eventually our qualification for the Premier League is there to show that we justified the huge expenditure on us. We want to take football in Bayelsa state to the next level and hopefully when the league starts we will be able to compete with clubs like Sharks, Enyimba and Dolphins.
