NFL's shocker package for players

Fort-holding chairman, Nigeria Football League (NFL) Chief Oyuike Obaseki has unfolded plans for the 2006 football league season. Speaking with nigeriasports.com, Obaseki disclosed that one of his plans for next year, was to stop clubs from paying sign-on fees to players.

"I want to make sure clubs stop paying sign-on fees to players rather, they should be paying salaries. It will help both players and clubs in times of
commitments, he said.

He further stated that, each teams both in the Premier and Professional clubs must register its 30-35 players before the season kicks off first week in February 2006, while matches would be played twice in a week to enable them meet up with the European calendar.

"We must accept the fact that the way players travel to Europe in the name of trials is not good and for us to stop this we must work hard to make sure our
football calendar is inline with the European calendar.

"If we can do that we will find out that by the time market open in Europe, here we are on break too to enable our players travel on trails to any country of
there choice. I mean this is one of the most important things we must work on and I bet you by next year allthis things will stop," Obaseki remarked.

Obaseki also confirmed that NFL congress must hold second week in January where those matters would be discussed and resolve for the betterment of the 2006 League season.
