Egypt 2006: Eguavoen names Fifty two for Camp

Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen finally made public the long-awaited team list of the Nigerian National team ahead of next week’s training camp in Faro, Portugal.

True to his words, he did not include Newcastle’s left full back, Celestine Babayaro in the list of fifty three.

Eguavoen was reported as saying on his return from London, that he would not beg anyone to play for the country, probably in reference to Babayaro.

The list comprises thirty seven foreign based players, twelve from the local league and four, who the Coach says are on standby.

Eguavoen told nigeriasports.com that he expects the players based in the local league to open the camp followed by those in European countries whose leagues are on break before those in the Premiership, who may have to stick to FIFA’s fourteen -day policy.

“Of course I am not expecting a full camp on the first day, but I know my players will show some respect and arrive on time.”

“You know what FIFA says about players arriving for International Competitions and if players like those in the Premiership cannot come on time because of club commitments, then we must abide by the FIFA ruling.”
