Athletics Federation keeps athletes in the dark

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN is yet to come out with a training program for Nigeria’s athletics team ahead of the Olympic games in Greece next year.

Still basking in the euphoria of her impressive outing at the 8th All Africa Games, there is still no concrete plan on ground for the Olympic Games.

Deima Afiesimama was a finalist in the men’s 110 meters hurdles event in Abuja 2003 and he told www.nigeriasports.com that he is not too pleased with the situation in the Federation.

“Right now I am training on my own,” Deima said. “Its too bad that I can not be part of the next National Sports Festival so this is the only way I can maintain my form. I just wish the Federation can get their acts together before long so we can get started.”

He said athletes have been left in the lurch as regards the training regimen ahead of the Olympics.

Only last week, former Nigerian Olympic Athlete, Falilat Ogunkoya- Osheku warned the AFN on the dangers of late preparation saying the best time to start is now.
