Sunk, that is in terms of relegation, the football arm of the Nigerian Ports Authority is submerged in the heaps of relegation, but must sail on. That sums up the declaration of the Executive Director, Alhaji Wasiu Yaro.
Yaro made this declaration, when members of the Dr. Rafiu Oladipo Committee for anti-hooliganism in soccer presented an award to the club supporters for emerging the first winners of the Award in June/July,2005 League season.
"What do you do with a relegated team? Oh well, we have to retreat, get our acts together, go for better players, drop the weak feet and overhaul the technical crew if need be, and get ready to face the challenges of fighting back to where we were relegated.
"We won't disband the team. Why? We have to find out what went wrong and rectify them preparatory to the big fight to come back to the Premiership next season.
"This Award is most encouraging in our quest to get back to the top league in 2006. It goes a long way to show that, even in defeats, our supporters kept their cool and took everything in their strides.
"That is one of the golden rules of the game of football and in fact, sports in general. You can not win all and all the time. Sometimes you win, and some times, you lose. Now, we have lost but we are proud to have been deemed fit for this Award for being the best club supporters in the months of June and July, 2005.
"There is nothing like disbanding the team,... we will get back to our rightful place in Nigerian football," Yaro promised emphatically.
