Convinced by reasons forwarded to it by the out-gone Chairman, Nigeria Football Association, NFA Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, members of the emergency congress meeting, in Makurdi, Benue State capital today, December 6, 2005 gave their nods to the Nduka Irabor-headed Electoral Committee, which was appointed by Galadima.
FA Chairmen and some stakeholders, had earlier frowned at the constitution and appointment of the committee, which they claimed, was the baby of the out-gone NFA head - a move some of them had described as "another way of ensuring he (Galadima's) return to the Nigerian Football House as Chief Executive, after amongst other faults, he contributed immensely to the nation's inability to nick a Germany 2006 World Cup ticket."
According to our source on ground in Makurdi, the congress was wrapped in heated arguements for and against the Electoral Committee, "but at the end of the day, and contrary to expectations, majority agreed to endorse the authenticity of the committee headed by ace Journalist, Nduka Irabor.
Meanwhile, nigeriasports.com investigations show that, one of the NFA Chairmanship aspirant from the north central zone, is enjoying the backing of the sports ministry, while another, who is yet to unfold his position, we gathered, is "being cautious for fear of the unknown."
One of the stalled runs by the out-gone Galadima board to extend their stay in office, was a purported letter from FIFA endorsing such move. But this was stalled by now better -informed Nigerians.
We gathered that, elections into the new Board of the Nigerian FA, are expected to hold on December 27, 2005 and one of the contestants for the executive chairman's seat, is Alhaji Galadima, who has sworn to rather be kicked-out at the polls, than bowing out without a tackle.
By this decision, nigeriasports.com gathered further, the congress also gave its seal for the Galadima-led board to remain in office until the December 27 elections date.
.WE'LL BE ON WITH MORE REPORTS FROM THE CONGRESS IN MAKURDI AS SOON AS OUR MAN THERE SUCCEEDS IN LINKING UP WITH US IN LAGOS.
