Mrs Mabel Eben-Spiff and her 20 yr old son Ebenezer Eben-Spiff, anundergraduate of the University of science and technology, Port-Harcourt,won the Ladies and Mens event respectively in the last leg of the MTN/Virgin sponsored golf classic played at the Port-Harcourt Golf club over the the weekend.
Ebeneezer Eben-Spiff who chattered the Port-Harcourt golf club’s records by shooting a 12 under
par 70 on the first day of the MTN-Virgin golf classics, won with a total of 121 net gross to emerge as the winner of the classics thereby booking himself a ticket to the champions tour to the Trinidad and Tabago early next year.
Eben-spiff who beat another youngster Sunday Adu and G Marchesterkumar to third and second places respectively, almost lost his ticket to Trinidad and Tobago on the grounds that he was a minor, he was however given his prize after lengthy deliberations by club officials and the organizers that held up the presentation ceremonies later confirmed him the winner.
Obvious of the confusion caused by his winning the classic, Eben-Spiff, while receiving the giant trophy told the audience amidst cheers, “ I have been playing golf since I can remember at the age of seven and now I am 20, I cannot be described as a minor, adding when I heard about this championship, I decided to give a trial, and only began to train last Thursday, I am really happy I won.”
In the Ladies event, the tournament favorite Celina James could only manage to win the gross net, she failed the bookmakers predictions to emerge as the classics champion, allowing Mabel Eben-Spiff to claim the classic title. Which means both mother and son will be on the trip to Trinidad and Tobago, “ I am really excited I will be traveling to the Trinidad and Tobago with my son” She enthused after relieving her prize. Mary Rose Chima who plays off handicap 30 Patience Oguzu won the second and third places
respectively.
