Chief Edwin Osuhor, possibly the one Nigerian that is more at home when the issue is golf rules, is particularly sad that Nigerian professionals, though very talented, are still going through the rough before they can put food on the table for their families. He blamed this sad situation on lack of tourneys for the pros to play in.
"I think this issue is getting out of hand"Osuhor lamented. "And truly, I will want to blame the pros as being part of the issue. I mean I hate to hear pros say they can't play for N1 million . I mean what are they talking about. The issue is we are not understanding issues in this country. I mean in abroad known pros still play for as little as $1. You see our pros must understand the difference between mere tourneys and majors. Small tourneys are just meant to keep pros busy and help them pay domestic bills.
All pros don't have to play in it. If it's not going to worth your while, don't go. But the "major" is the clincher, the pay-day. Henceforth, I will not really support the winner of a major tourney in Nigeria not going home with at least N500,000. Anything short of this will be ridiculous. And again, I want to point it out that I'm indeed disappointed in corporate bodies who sponsor tourneys to the tune of about N8m and still keep professionals out. All I can say is so many corporate bodies are ignorant of the fact that a tourney without pros has lost all hypes".
