A twelfth minute strike by winger Efosa Eguakun in Sunday’s week 24 Nigerian premier league match played in Port Harcourt gave Champions, Dolphins FC maximum points against Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
Joe Eyimofe’s pull out was missed by both Endurance Idahor and Kelechi Osunwa but Efosa made no mistake scoring a rare goal for his side.
After that is was a drab affair until the end as both sides played as if there was nothing at stake.
“I understand why my boys played that way,” Technical Adviser of Dolphins, Musa Abdulahi told nigeriasports.com after the match.
“We have fixture congestion now from the League, FA cup and the Continental games as well as three outstanding matches so it would not be wise for them to over work themselves hence their decision to take it easy.”
His opposite number, Tunde Disu angrily left the stadium after the game refusing to talk.
However, teenage winger, Gbenga Ajala attributed their loss to hard luck.
“It is always like this as we play so well but fail to take our chances in away games.”
“I know things will improve pretty soon and we will end up in second place.”
