Ojobasi,Genevieve win Enugu Regional Marathon

Abia’s Stanley Ojobasi, took the pole position at the MTN Enugu regional half marathon sunday nigeriasports.com can report.

The race is the first in a series of regional marathons leading up to the MTN Lagos international half Marathon coming up in November. Ojobasi returned a time of 1 hour 14.06 seconds to win the #50,000 at stake.

The race was officially flagged of by the state deputy Governor, Okechukwu Itanyi under a cool atmosphere at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium after a light early morning rain .

"i feel very happy winning this race, i hope to represent the region well at the real thing in November in Lagos" the fair complexioned athlete said.

"this year's race is a better one and i thank the sponsors and the organisers" Ojobasi  concluded.

Matthew Okoro from Enugu state returned in 1hr:15minutes .03 seconds, while Richard Anthony of the Prisons Services came third in 1:16.58 seconds.

In the women’s race Abia’s Genevieve Njoku breasted the tape in 1:34.04 seconds to grab the 30,000 Naira prize money.

Imo’s Patricia Mbachu came second and get 20,000 while Philomena Ihekandu came third and got 10,000.

All the winners will be sponsored to Lagos for the real thing in November.
