The Nasarawa state government says it is working on additional three stadia, in the three senatorial zones of the state to compliment the existing sporting facilities for maximum sports development in the state.
This was disclosed to Nigeriasports.com by the state commissioner for sports, Mr Silas Agara in an interview in Lafia, Nasarawa state last weelend.
According to the commissioner, the government which is more concerned with infrastructural development has earmarked series of sports projects to be sited within the state with the works being taken in phases while some are nearing completion.
"If you look at the Lafia stadium, it is no longer what it use to be two years back. We now have a playing turf that can rank comfortably among the best in the country",
"The popular side is being expanded. We are also expanding the VIP section. The floodlight is being assembled while the scoreboard will soon be mounted. We have also put in place a beffiting indoor sports hall that will be commissioned in June",
"We are doing this to ensure that sports is developed well in the state and enable us groom our own athletes".
Speaking on the National Sports Festival, Mr Agara said the state still at the stage of identifying young and able athletes will soon move to camp since the camping site is ready.
He assured that the state will surpase its record at the last National Sports Festival hosted by the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja where it placed 15th.
"I want to assure that we will surpase that record, no matter what it will take. We will sure be above that position. And I believe that with the kind of support we are getting from the state government ang the efforts of the sports ministry staff, that dream will not be too tall to achieve".
Commissioner sure of Nasarawa
Despite the unimpressive performances being recorded by the Globacom Premier League debutants, Nasarawa United Football club, the Nasarawa state commissioner for Sports, Mr Silas Agara is still confident that the Lafia giants will not go back to the Pro-league at the end of the season.
Speaking to nigeriasports.com in Lafia after his team forced their visitors Lobi Stars FC of Markurdi to a 1-1 draw in their week 13 encounter, the commissioner said the club is going through a difficult time which will soon be over.
"Relegation is the last thing that ever come to my mind despite the situation we find ourselves today. I have never been a failure in my life. What we are going through is just for a matter of time, we will get over it",
"The match against Lobi Stars was not impressive. It has always been one thing against my team and that is finishing. I have six more matches to go before the windows are opened",
"It is a problem, but I have to contend with that and the best thing is to make due with what we have now. But definetely, relegation is out of it. It is even too early to talk about that".
According to the commissioner, there is no sack fever for both the technical crew and the management" I don't have any problem with them, they've not given me any cause to doubt them for now".
