Four Nigerians for World Powerlifting Championship

Four Women will be representing Nigeria at the 5th edition of the World Women Powerlifting billed to take place from the 25th to 29th May in Finland. In a chat with nigeriasports.com the Secretary -General of the Nigeria Professional Powerlifters Association Oladipupo Sangode said that the Nigerian representatives are; Nkechi Adgwu(Abia), Helen Matthew( Abia), Stella Adewusi (Nigeria Police), and Mary Ehiebi(Lagos).

.Sangode stressed that this is the first time Nigeria would be participating in a championship of this magnitude and that, South Africa has been the only African representatives  since inception of the competition in 2000.

" I'm very happy that Nigeria is participating at the World Championship for the first time especially in the women category. This is sign of good things to come to Nigeria especially in powerlifting and l thank God for this new development," Sangode said.
According him, the athletes are expected to participate in three categories at the championship which are Squatting, Bench Press and bed lift. The three categories are meant for able bodies while bench press is meant for disabled powerlifters".

He expressed optimism  that Nigeria would do well at the World Championship although thisthe first international competition in which the country  would be participating  at  world level.

"I'm very optimistic that Nigeria would stun the world , even if it is her first international competition in the women category this year. I'm very optimistic that we'll do well. Nigeria is not a country to toy with when its comes to powerlifting because, we're rated  best in Africa at the expense of South Africa that had been the only African representatives at world level.The enlisted are to be called to camp early next month
