Nigerian sprinter, Uduak Joan Ekah has revealed that she is dumping Nigeria for good. Ekah made this revelation in an interview on COSMO FM friday. nigeriasports.com monitored the interview and can report that Ekah has lost interest in representing her fatherland.
Ekah who began big time athletics in 1998 has come to hate Nigeria because of the way and manner the sport administrators have treated her over the years which came to a height when she was suspended along side Chinedu Odozor and Mercy Nku in 2004.
"i have gotten nothing but insults running for Nigeria and times have come to stop'
"i do not want to have anything to do with Nigeria again" Ekah who just had an operation stated.
"i should have dumped the country a long time ago but decided not to as i hoped that things would take a turn for the better but i have hoped in vain and this is the time to be wise" the Akwa Ibom born sprinter declared.
When asked if her friend, Gloria Alozie who dumped Nigeria after Sydney 2000 Olympics is influencing her on this, Ekah's reply was no.
"nobody is influencing me instead Alozie is laughing at me because i did not heed her advice when she asked me to change with her after the Sydney Olympics"
The running of the sport in Nigeria according to Ekah is "too amaturish and the administrators don't respect the athletes, they are also corrupt and tend to rip the athletes off"
She would love retired athletes who did this country proud to be brought back to help in the development of the sport.
"we have many retired athletes in the USA who are ready to assist the country in developing the sport but they are not being carried along and this is bad" she said.
Ekah said she will be back in training in a fortnight after undergoing an operation recently.
She is not sure which country to take up it's citizenship but Spain is the mostly likely as she has stayed there for seven years.
she has a personal best time of 11.11secs in 100m (Lausanne, 1999) and 23.27secs in 200m (Alicante, 2000)
