African Champions, Enyimba FC on Wednesday at their Enyimba International Stadium home ground thrashed Gateway 2-0 to further extend their lead at the top to six points after nine weeks of action.
In Wednesday’s rescheduled encounter, Enyimba went straight into the attack registering the first goal as early as the tenth minute through Kola Ademola who’s over head kick from out side the eighteen yard box beat keeper Henry Ayodele who had left his line.
Nine minutes later, Muri Ogunbuyi jabbed home a rebound after Ayodele failed to stop a shot that rattled him.
After that, Gateway’s Coach, David Egbiri brought in Solomon Oduma for Uche Olisakwe to further strengthen his midfield and with sixteen year old prodigy Lukman Kareem waking up and giving the Enyimba defence troubled moments, it looked obvious that the fans would not get the goal fest they were all dreaming of.
But Enyimba still had the better of the chances as David Tyekase’s pile driver in the 28th minute beat Ayodele but was saved by the upright.
The young upstarts replied the complement a few minutes later as Chigbo Offor’s rising shot almost beat Aiyenugba who’s lackadaisical approach to the shot ensured he had to parry twice before it went for a corner which was wasted anyway.
With the first half ended at 2-0 nil, Enyimba’s Coach, Emordi brought in Prince Olomu for Muri Ogunbuyi, Uche Sherrif for injured Raji Nojeem and Atanda Shakibu for Joetex Frimpong but before that, Keeper Ayodele was called to the rescue of his team again as he saved four shots in a goal mouth melee from Osim, Johnson and Frimpong to keep the score line low.
“We have lost again and I would not blame anyone,” David Egbiri told nigeriasports.com after the match.
“We will just go back home and prepare for Gombe United on Sunday and hope to at least pick three home points in that match.”
