Port Harcourt: Lagos MRS has been tipped to win the General Hassan Cup in the on-going Vmobile/Niger Delta Polo tourney. The polo club was thrown into some form of frenzy jubilation today as Lagos MRS, one of the teams vying for honours in the prestigious General Hassan Katsina Cup in the ongoing Vombile-sponsored Niger Delta polo tournament, turned the table against the highly favoured Lagos Ashbert Raiders. Ashbert Raiders opened the scoreline through its patron, Prince Albert Esiri, but later succumbed to the firing power of Sayyu-led side and lost the match by 2goals to 4.
Lagos MRS showed their resolve to carry the day, when Sayyu Dantata, the teams engine room displayed good horsemanship by seizing the midfield and terrorizing their opponents until it caved in few minutes into the opening Chukka through a shot from
his brother, Madugu Dantata.
The match which was tightly fought saw star player, Hamisu Buba equalizing for the Ashbert side. But on return for the third Chukka, the MRS, playing like a team infused with the winning bug, tore through the defensive wall of Raiders and slot in a goal to the admiration of polo fans who turned out in their hundreds to watch the encounter. The story was the same in the fourth chukka as Sayyu Dantata once again played his way into the hearts of his numerous fans through his solo effort, which brought the tally to four against two for the Ashbert team that has Adamu Yaro, Hamisu Buba, Jamilu Mohammed playing for the side.
In the other matches also decided today, Port-Harcourt Le Meridien outscored Bauchi Marshpearl by 31/2 (three and half) goals to 3 (three). In the encounter involving Katsina Kangiwa and Ibadan Challenge, the Oluyole boys carried the day by beating the desert team by 5-1.
Lagos Agad patroned by Adamu Yaro was also at his best in the match against Lagos Ikoyi. It won by 8goals to 21/2. Also Yola ABTI defeated PH Crushed Roack by 31/2 goals to 3. The weeklong encounter enters its third day today and would be rounded off on Saturday
