Supporters of Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt on Wednesday at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt used the league match between Dolphin and Iwuanyanwu Nationale to stage a silent protest to the NFA concerning their botched FA Cup match against Insurance on Benin that was abandoned for what they termed poor officiating by center referee, Soji Popoola, nigeriasports.com reports.
The fans carried placard around the stadium inscribed with messages like, “NFA, please we need fair judgement” and “Referee Popoola is a disgrace to the profession”
One of the fans told nigeriasports.com after the match that was the only way to could voice out their grievances to the Football ruling body.
“We still feel we were wrongly treated, and we demand justice. If the NFA keeps quiet, the league could die next season because there will surely be more of that situation in venues next season.”
However, reports reaching nigeriasports.com from the NFA Glass House in Abuja indicates that the FA could have already awarded the match to Bendel Insurance of Benin for what was termed, “lack of sufficient evidence to prove the referee was biased against Sharks.”
