NBL splash N50million on Cycling Championship

In order to ensure a good outing for the 2nd edition of the Maltina Men Cycling Tour of Nigeria, the Nigeria Breweries Plc has earmarked a sum of fifty million naria for the big event.


Speaking with nigeriasports during a press brief on Tuesday the marketing Director of NBL Mr. Dan Esiekpe revealed that this year’s edition is a continuation in innovation as well preparing athletes for future competitions.

He stated that the 2nd Maltina Cycling tour of Nigeria would be a 13-day thriller, as the event itself would last for 10 days. He noted that a day would  set aside for the cycliststo rest to enable them regain their strengths while the first two days will be for arrivals, and extensive briefing on the rules and regulations of the championship and lectures on the need for a drug free sports and sportsmanship.

Esiekpe further stated that the event would be flagged off at Kaduna on Thursday, September 23, “ Cyclists will ride through Abuja, Keffi, Lafia, Otukpo, Enugu,Awka, Asaba, Benin, Akure, Ondo, Ilesha, Ife, Osogbo, Ibadan, while ending the race in Lagos on the last day been October 3rd,” he said.

He also disclosed that a total number of 18 out of 72 cyclist would be emerged from the pre- championship, competitions and time trials pan Nigeria while a total of 1,009 kilometers would be covered within the 10 days.

The overall winner would smile home with sum of N250,00 along with a trophy and certificate of
participant as well as the winner will go home with N20,00, per stage while the second to 10 also gets
cash prizes.

Chairman Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) Pa Moses Ojido also assured that he would put all his best to make sure the both the cyclist and the official enjoys the event.
